For many years we have had a garden. I have aspired to become self sufficient but realize I am not adequately skilled. Each summer, however, my wife, Sandra and I, set out to plant and grow as much food as we can.
2020 has provided us more time to pay attention to the daily challenges of bugs and predators in the garden. This year, without doubt has been especially good. Although we have had little precipitation, here on the south coast of Maine we have managed to grow a bounty of food.
Almost daily we tend the garden and take from it several pounds of vegetables. Often, between 5 and 10 pounds. Growing food from seeds is another miracle that we could easily not realize. Watching the tiny, fragile sprouts turn into squash, tomatoes, peppers, egg plant, potatoes, corn, is to witness a miracle. Even the worms seem miraculous!
